sediment filter installationFew things are more important to your health than pure water. So, if you just bought a home or a new water filtration system, you need quality sediment filter installation. Thankfully, Tri-County Water Services is here for you. In this blog, we’ll talk about the value of a sediment filter, the importance of proper sediment filter installation, and some helpful information on filter replacement.

What is a Sediment Filter?

First, what is a sediment filter and how does it work? And what does this have to do with sediment filter installation? Sediment is a generic term for all the particles in your water that is not liquid. Thus, a sediment filter captures and removes those small particles, like dust and dirt, from water. Typically, there are three ways these particles can get in your water.

  • Flakes of rust can enter your water supply from corroded plumbing.
  • Plus, rainwater can bring soil, silt, clay, and grains of sand into your well groundwater supply.
  • Also, flow changes in your water main can transport sediment to your home.

The sediment filter functions as the first line of defense against this dirt and debris. It prevents all these particles from entering your water supply and hampering the performance of your water filtration systems. If your filter isn’t installed properly, your whole system can get compromised.

Sediment Filter Installation

Second, various types of sediment filters can be installed in your system. These include:

  • Pleated filters
  • String-wound filters
  • Melt-blown filters
  • Spin-down filters
  • Bag filters

Which one works best for your system depends on your system and the types of sediment you can expect to face. Pleated ones do well against large particulates. Meanwhile, melt-blown work best for very fine particulates. Additionally, each filter has their fair share of weaknesses too. For example, string-wound filters need frequent replacement or they’ll allow sediment into your water.

Sediment Filter Replacement

Third, if you’re not looking for sediment filter installation, you might need information on filter replacement. Typically, you should expect to replace your filter once every 6-12 months. The best way to figure out when you need a replacement is to mind your water pressure. If you notice your water pressure is getting low, you might need to replace the filter.
