How to Avoid Mineral and Sediment Buildup in Your Water

April 25, 2024 By Brent D. Hershey Leave a Comment

mineral and sediment buildup

The water that comes out of the faucets in your house might contain minerals and sediment. While that’s normal to some degree, high levels of contaminants in the water supply can cause clogs, damage your plumbing fixtures, and impact your quality of life. Installing a water softener is a simple and effective way to avoid mineral and sediment buildup in your water.

What Causes Mineral and Sediment Buildup

If you have a well, there’s a good chance that you have hard water that contains high concentrations of calcium and magnesium. If the water isn’t treated, sediment can build up inside your pipes and cause corrosion. Hard water can leave behind stains on your toilets, sinks, and tubs and damage appliances, such as your dishwasher.

Dishes and clothes that are washed in hard water can also be affected. You might notice spots on your dishes, and your clothes might look faded and feel stiff after you wash them. Your skin might feel itchy from wearing clothes washed in hard water.

Water with high levels of calcium and magnesium can dry out your hair and skin. You might find it hard to create a lather when you take a shower, and you might feel like it’s difficult to get clean.

How to Deal with Hard Water Issues

If you’ve experienced any of these problems, it’s likely that you have hard water and that it’s causing mineral and sediment buildup. Tri-County Water Services can install a water softener that will eliminate these issues, protect your plumbing and appliances from damage, and make your life more comfortable.

Although hard water is a common issue, water can be contaminated with a variety of other substances, such as chemicals and heavy metals. Before we take any action, we’ll have to identify the source of the problem.

We’ll collect a water sample and send it to a laboratory for testing. If we find that the issues you’ve been facing are indeed caused by hard water, we’ll install a water softener to deal with the problem. Contact us today at (610) 857-1740 to discuss the problems you’ve been experiencing and to have a water sample analyzed.
