There are several different types of under sink water filtration systems. This blog will discuss water filters mounted under the kitchen sink but not reverse osmosis systems. If you have questions about reverse osmosis, under sink water filtration, or whole house water filtration, contact the pros at Tri-County Water Services.

“Conventional” Under Sink Water Filtration Systems
A conventional under sink water filter gets its water from the cold-water pipe and sends it to the water filter via a plastic tube. The water exits the filter through another plastic tube and is then routed to a special faucet mounted on top of the kitchen sink.
A conventional under sink filtration system only filters water that is delivered to a special drinking faucet. Water delivered to the regular hot- and cold-water faucet is not filtered.
“Simple” Under Sink Water Filtration Systems
These filters clean all of the water delivered through the regular cold-water pipe. They do not filter hot water. Simple under sink filters are becoming more popular thanks to the advent of flexible under sink piping, which makes installing these filters simpler and less expensive.
Which Type of Under Sink Water Filter Is Better?
Both conventional and simple under sink filters have pros and cons. The filter cartridges on conventional filters tend to last longer because they’re only filtering cooking and drinking water. These filters also tend to produce cleaner water thanks to the reduced flow rate. Conventional filters are easy to install on both flexible and all-copper piping.
Simple water filters tend to be less expensive overall, and no additional faucet is needed; however, their filter cartridges do not last as long because they filter all of the cold water dispensed through the faucet. Although they can be installed on any sink, they’re typically more practical under sinks with flexible connectors rather than sinks with all-copper piping.
